Strobing Imagery at Its finest.

The Graphics Interchange Format, or GIF was created for animations in the late 1980s. In The Margins, GIFs are used to bring the party to life in a new way. Using these moving images to illustrate the rhythm, freedom, and ecstasy that can be found in this mystical space. Partygoers are also able to interact safely through these animated GIFs, creating the sense of community that was unachievable physically due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Watch the encompassing reel below.

The Installation.

The Boundless Playlist.

One of the five senses, Sound is a core aspect of Macon’s practice. The soundtrack for this installation was curated with The Margins in mind, featuring only artists that embrace their marginalization. With a spotlight on artists of color, queer acts, and music of different languages and cultures, the sounds of this safe space become an active part of the installation. No straight white men allowed. Sorry, Ed Sheeran.

Thanks for coming to the margins.

YOu ain’t gotta go home, but you can’t stay here forever.

Be glad you saw this virtually. The Bouncer was kind of an asshole.
