Empower is an advertising and marketing agency headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, founded in 1985 by Mary Beth Price. Known as the “Un-Holding Company”, Empower MediaMarketing puts clients first with their five values and focuses on creative solutions.

In 2020, I was their Assistant Visual Engineer during a co-op rotation. As the position title suggests, I worked under the Visual Engineer Wally German for the internship of a lifetime. Interrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic, the responsibilities of my position expanded and shifted from editing the visual engineer’s content and creating vector elements for internal marketing, to building upon my own repertoire with cutting room floor footage. Below, see some of the work I editing and created before and after the pandemic. All images and videos are shot by Wally German, for Empower MediaMarketing unless said otherwise.

Memes 4 Wally.

Memes4Wally is a parodic video case study on pop film culture and the eccentricity of internet memes by Alex Macon. The "Wally" in question is Wally German: Lead Visual Engineer for Empower Media Marketing. The artist's supervisor at the time, the series was made for German during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic. The series was initially made purely to entertain German while also analyzing the aesthetic choices made by the films' videographer. The series is also an exploration into humor, camp, and subversive editing techniques.
